How do you convert square feet to square meters?

Why is exactly one square foot equal to 0.09290304 square meters?

A square foot is the area of a square with sides that are one foot in length. A square meter, on the other hand, is the area of a square with sides that are one meter in length. Since there are exactly 0.3048 meters per foot, squaring both sides of this equation gives us our conversion factor for areas.

The same logic applies to converting in the opposite direction.
